| Marillion Releases Album on BitTorrent British rock band Marillion has become the latest to shake-up the record industry by releasing its new album "Happiness is the Road" on BitTorrent.
Fans can download a copy at their leisure and without the fuss that was associated with the Radiohead's "In Rainbows" release where you had to register first, and even then were greeted with a low bitrate copy of the album.
"While we don't condone illegal file-sharing, it's a fact of life that a lot of music fans do it," said keyboard player Mark Kelly.
Marillion hopes to recoup money by sending messages about their tour and merchandise to people who download a copy of their latest album.
"We want to know who our file-sharing fans are," he added. "If they like our new album enough, then we want to persuade them to at least come and see us on tour."
The band, who like Radiohead have cut-out the record label, were one of the first to release records through their own website in the 1990s.
