Fans around the world rush to snap up Partick Thistle's new pink strip

PARTICK Thistle have scored a winner - with their new pink strip.

Fans across the world have been rushing to buy the kit which raised a few eyebrows - and smiles - when it was launched last week.

And such is the demand - including from punters in Australia, Belgium, Canada and throughout the UK - stores are ordering in extra stock. The response also led to record-breaking takings at the Jags' club shop - up 400 per cent.

It all went crazy on Wednesday when the Puma pink and grey hooped away strip went on general sale. Glasgow firm Greaves Sports, Thistle's official retailers, have been overwhelmed with customers.

Boss Sandy Greaves said: "It's easily our best-ever kit launch - the level of interest and uptake has been mind-blowing.

"As well as online orders from all around the world, there has been constant traffic to our stores. The kit is being snapped up by Thistle fans of all ages, male and female, as well as the occasional non-Thistle fan.

"Add to that the amazing sight of queues at Thistle's Firhill ground and record sales, it's been quite a first week for the strip. It seems the whole country is talking about it."

Stuart MacPhee, the Glasgow side's marketing boss, added: "The shirt being such a success shows the fans are right behind us and share our excitement for the way the club are progressing."

The colour of the strip sparked a few sniggers within the game and even some Jags players admit they could face pelters from rivals fans.

But midfielder Scott Chaplain said: "Pink is in - it's the new black."
