Motherwell to slash Old Firm ticket prices - but not for other SPL clubs

MOTHERWELL last night announced they were slashing ticket prices at Fir Park - but only for Old Firm matches.

Celtic and Rangers fans will pay just £15 to see their teams play Mark McGhee's side but other SPL teams' supporters will still have to shell out £22 in Lanarkshire.

Chief executive Ian Stillie said the surprise move was geared towards generating more of a family atmosphere at games and therefore a reduction in sectarianism inside the ground. The new price structure for Category A fixtures - games involving the Old Firm - will be £15 for adults and £10 for concessions.

That's a significant decrease of the previous prices of £25 and £17 for the away section.

For Category B fixtures with Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibs and Hamilton, standard gate prices of between £18 and £22 will apply.

But kids under 12 will be allowed free entry when accompanied by a paying adult. Motherwell Juvenile season ticket holders will also be able to bring a friend for free.

And for Category C fixtures - Dundee United, Kilmarnock, St Mirren, Falkirk and Inverness - Motherwell fans will be able to watch the match in the South Stand, normally reserved for the visiting support, for just £10.Under-12s will be allowed in free when joined by an adult.

The news will be a boost for Old Firm fans who have complained in recent years that they have been forced to fork out more than anyone else to follow their team.

Stillie said: "There's been a dip with regards the numbers of Old Firm fans coming to Fir Park in recent times because of a variety of economic problems.

"So if we want to fill Fir Park for those games, we needed to cut the ticket prices.

"We also hope the reduction in concessions will mean more families will come to the game and then we may have to suffer less of the sectarian nonsense."
