Celtic face Uefa probe over fan

Uefa has opened an investigation after a fan ran on to the pitch at Celtic Park during Wednesday's Champions League match with Manchester United.

European football's governing body said inspectors would prepare a report for its control and disciplinary committee, which is scheduled to meet on Thursday.

Celtic are under threat of a suspended fine for an incident last October.

They were fined £12,500, with a similar amount suspended, after a supporter confronted AC Milan's Dida.

Celtic were warned that the extra fine could be triggered should Uefa deem they had failed to control their fans again over the next two years.

John Paul Murphy entered Celtic Park's playing area in the 35th minute of the Group E match, when the Scottish champions led 1-0 during the eventual 1-1 draw.

On Thursday, the 19-year-old pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to a breach of the peace and being drunk in a sports ground - and was remanded in custody with his sentence deferred.

Uefa, meanwhile, had awaited reports from the referee and match delegate before deciding on its next action.

Punishments available to Uefa's control and disciplinary committee range from fines to docking points or instructing European matches to be played behind closed doors.

Manchester United could also face an investigation if match delegates mentioned alleged sectarian chanting by a section of their support at Wednesday's match.

These clowns running on the pitch are going to put the club in hot water. Time for some of the support to wise up.

I agree the clown shouldn't have done it, and given the chance i'd like to stick my foot up his arse, and if they find out he's a season ticket holder he should face a ban, but what are all the police and stewards doing around the stadium? Somebody that's being paid to prevent such an act has failed in their job and should be held accountable.
